Timeshare Exchanges Can Be Made Easier

Many sales people work on commissions. They don’t make money unless you buy. So you often get a high pressure sales presentation with many incentives including the promise of great vacation exchanges to lure you into making the plunge and becoming a timeshare owner. The concept of exchange is one of the hooks that look attractive to prospective buyers. The timeshare industry also has been know to have a high turn over rate, so many sales people are new and are too inexperienced to know what works and what doesn’t. They only know what they are told in their sales training.

Timeshare exchange is a complex process. Timeshare owners are only given one of two options for exchanging their timeshare through their Interval International membership. The request first option allows you to place a request against your current timeshare week without relinquishing that week until you are confirmed. You can cancel the request at anytime throughout the process up until the time of confirmation. This method often slows down the exchange process because requests cannot be confirmed without someone relinquishing their week. The deposit first option allows timeshare owners to deposit a week they are not going to use before it expires and save it in a bank to place a request on at a later date. But many owners are reluctant to relinquish their week without the guarantee of an exchange in return. As many owners have experienced, these options offered by exchange companies do not always yield acceptable results.

Another frustrating factor in the exchange process is that while you are waiting for an exchange to be confirmed, owners often miss out on the best airfares because they fill up quickly especially around peak travel times such as a holiday or school vacation. Booking early in most cases gets travelers the best fares, but without an exchange confirmation, this cannot be done placing timeshare owners at a disadvantage over other types of vacations.

Airlines have streamlined their schedules to save money, which means there are fewer seats available in today’s airways. Typically airlines start offering airfares 330 days prior to the flight. This is usually when the best fares are available. As the seats fill up, the price goes up. This is especially true around peak travel times. It is a simple matter of supply and demand.

Timeshare owners can find relief by learning as much information about the exchange process and to equip themselves with the knowledge of multiple methods of placing a request of exchange. As many timeshare owners have learned, there are ways to give themselves an advantage that will speed up the process and get them confirmed early so to avoid the headaches associated with arranging late travel plans.
